English language challenges

This year I took classes of english in my university. Those have been very interesting and they increase my vocabulary and the way of expression. I believe that the challenges of this language is think in english, because you have know every word, every adjective, verb or noun, but if you do not know how to use it in a correct form at the time of speaking you will not communicate with other person. Also, the most important thing to try learn english is constantly be practicing because if you do not do it, you will not get a better pronunciation and any fluency. However, I think It is hard to do because every day we talk in spanish, but nowadays our society is including more words in our daily language through the mass media and there are more programs to learn it the schools and other types of educational establishment.
In this way, I believe that this language is very useful to read relevant articles or books and even when you have to travel to another country, but if you do not like it, you will feel that the dialogues are hard. For that, the point of importance is principally the motivation and volition that you have to meet and understand this language. In this sense, you have to watch videos, film, listen music, try to talk with friends in english. Although this process would be difficult and very hateful, I think that in the future will be very easy speak with people of other countries.

Funny situations

I have to write about funny situations that have lived. In this moment I do not remember this type of situations because I am a person with a really bad memory. But I think with some friends I have very good moments. With an old friend, that she still my friend, we went to a restaurant to eat a lot of, especially churrasco. We have a passion for the food and we like a lot the fast food. When we arrives at it we ask for the biggest churrasco and we bought it. The other people, cookers and the waiter looked us very amazed because we were just to little girls with an enormous plate and french fries and the others were lorry or taxi drivers but all of them were men. We felt proud and shamed at the same time.
At other moment, I had to go a birthday party and my friend drunk a lot and at 12 o'clock he felt very dizzy. We tried to help him and carry him to the bathroom. With another friend were with at this place and I had to piss, but my drunk friend was using the bathroom. With all the force, because I was so desperate, I carry him away with another friend and I finally had it. But the problem was that my friend throw the bath curtain and it broke. We laugh a lot but we tried to fix it in a few hours.

Reflections

In those reflections, I want to describe a little how I survive to his year and tell you more about the differents experiences. This year I started my first year at university where I study sociology. It was a hard year, not only for the change from school from university, but for every situation that I live in the career and with my family. I think that this year I have learnt to be more patient, comprehensive and more positive. I met a lot of great people and friends. I leant to work in group to my homeworks and help to other classmates. I had a lot of problems with my mates because the majority of them have serious situations and I tried to be useful in those cases.
Also I knew more things about my career and I believe that it is very attractive to me. I want to finish and see how I have got more knowledge in every area of this life. At the first days of university I felt very lost and I had the sensation that I would not pass this year, but you see, I am still with life here writing a post in english.
I have experimented a change and a progress and I think that I am really growing up. I hope that the next year will be better in every sense and I want to be a better person to my family, friends and for the society, I mean to make a better place this world with a little change in myself.

My passion

When I was eight years olds my parents gave a violin like a gift to my birthday. In this time I did not want to play because it sounded like a cat screaming, but one day a friend of my mother said to her that there was a music teacher and he played the violin. Then, I took classes of music with him when I was nine for two years and finally I met the real sound of the violin with a lot of practice. This instrument was not my favorite, but I learnt to love it.

With the pass of time, I left the classes but some years I returned to take it. I think that my perception of time is changing meanwhile I am growing and I do more things like other years, so I have decided that the next year I will be in classes of violin again. I hope that never again left it for more, because I would be a really good violinist separate of my university career.

In this way, this instrument gave not just more knowledge about music, but it opened my mind to another world of things and a lot of new people that I met. Also, I met one of my best friend that plays the violin too, but now she is a professional in this. I will always be very grateful for the privilege of play the violin, an instrument too beautiful for this world.

How green are you?

I believe that this topic is important, because the environment is more weakly every day for the carelessness,  and this is so bad to our city and people who live in this country and the changes of the weather that carry on.  Personally, I think that I am not a green person. I do not recycle, plant trees and those things that ecological people do, but I try to do not take out the garbage on anywhere, constantly I use the public transport and I try to take care about the few green areas in this city.

I have to mention that in this country there are no strong policies about to care the environment and there is no a collective conscience about this topic. It is not a speaking theme on  mass media or in our daily conversations. In the other hand, the state would be more worried about not just getting a strong advertising, but forbidden the abuses done by the industries of any category. I remember the Caimanes situation, a few months ago in the north of the country. I felt so angry for the violence to the settlers and how the state is so permissive with these types of conflicts. Also projects like Hidroaysén and Punta de Choros, and others that already are in work like Talcahuano, Lirquén, just for name a few.

I just beg that this situation would be different and that it starts from me to contribute a part of this.

How I spent my fiestas patrias

My future job

Looking the future, it is very difficult to think in a job like the society put an ideal of a good job, it means principally get a good salary with a profession like medicine, engineering or beign a lawyer. But I am here, studying socology and I do not know what the sociologist do. Most of my teachers try to talk about their experiences in this career and explain what is the cost of studying an "unconventional" profession and which are the opportunities of work that they have. They explain us that they have at least two works and in one of them is like a private "consultation", where you can work in a business company making marketing studies; in this situation you get a lot of money, even making statistics works. In the other side, is the work that you have ever wished, helping people and looking the society with studies like outsourcing, inequality, education, uses of public spaces or some topic that you are interested.
With this, I think that my future is an unpredictable thing, but I would like to work in a ONG or foundation where help with the sociology knowledge to get a better society will be the principal aim. I know that I cannot change the entire world, but I will try a little.

Summer plans

The next year I want to do many things that I have had in mind.  On December, I would like approve every subject in the University and get a job with part time turns in a library or an interesting place, because I want to earn money for the plans. Then, on January I hope to travel with my family to a city or beach in the country like the other years; as a family, it is like a tradition visit a different and new place in Chile.  After that, I am thinking in “mochilear” (it is asking for a lift and travel free) with my best friend to the south of the country, but it is just an unfinished project, because she has to give the PSU and all that process to enter to the University.  

Also, I have a list to do that I did not this year for many reasons. I would like to read books, eat new food like Thai or Arabian food, watch a lot of films, go out and dance with some friends and specially spend the time with my family. I really hope that it would be a great summer.

Best holidays

My best holidays was two years ago. My family and I went to the south of the country, to Villarrica, it was winter and the weather was so cold but with beautiful landscapes. This week was raining and sunshine every day, it was terrific. In one of those days, my father invited us to hot springs out of this town, but near of it. We went and it was snowing and the hot springs were with no roof, so we could appreciate the most gorgeous scene with snow falling and changing the state to solid to liquid; it was like a movie.
In other  opportunity we went to the north of Chile a few years ago. I hated the dessert, because for me it was just sand, tamarugos and sun. But in the coast, near of Ovalle, there was a part called "Parque Nacional Bosque de Fray Jorge" and it is very special because it is like a jungle with a lot of plant life but in a place that is very hot; it is very nice. I hope someday will visit it again.

Country

I have never visit another country, but I wish to travel  to different places in the world someday. First, I would like to go to visit Netherlands. This country is full of beautiful landscapes, interesting monuments, has a valious history and attractive peolple to meet. I would visit cities like Amstaderdam, Utrecht, Apeldoorn and others to try to understand its culture and politics organisation, because they have a constitutional  monarchy.

 Also, they have some qualities that any other country in the zone has, it means  a new recreational social activities to improve the life of the citizens, like the marriage of couple of the same sex, euthanasia, abortion, and other public politics reforms in the same way.  The principal way of transport is the bike and most people use it. A important simbol of this place is the tulip flower, because there are many fields that it picks. Finally, in the cities there are many beaty medieval architecture, specially in Amsterdam. I hope someday visit it.

Memories from a country

The article what I chose was the 70th anniversary of Nagasaki nuclear bombing. People from this city and the survivors remembered this day with a ceremonial act with the major and the prime minister Shinzo Abe. The citizens call to authorities to eliminate the nuclear weapons and restrict the resources to the military self-defense.
I think it is important because the Second World War was a terrible conflict for every country that participated in this. In many places civil people suffered the calamities, like this one, of this situation for power interests from the potencies. I wish that those things would never happen with this magnitude.

Task BBC

I think this website is very useful, because it is free and you have the opportunity to listen and look a very good quality from a british english. My favourite activity was the suffixes -ment, -ance and -ence, because you always have to learn more vocabulary and the importance you have to give. Also the part of extreme sports is very interesting; and I wish being skydiver, but I would be really nervous. Between those activities, the worst was the past perfect countinous, because the explanation of this topic was not enough; then I noticed that a teacher with a class and mates is irreplaceable.

Travel

I would like to travel with my english class to London and visit the Camden Market. This place is in north of the capital and to get there you have to use the underground; the tube station nearest is Candem Town in zone 2. Also, you can go without tickets because it is free. I think it is a very interesting because the history, popularity and its beauty, makes this site out of common. You can go and buy food, clothes and other things, and you can see the boats with a shop inside like the movies show it.

I think it will be very fun.

Band

 One of my favourites band is The Clash. It is a british punk group at the end decade of '70. Their memebers were Joe Strummer, Paul Simonon, Mick Jones and Keith Levene. Actually, they are one of the most important band of the first wave of punk, accompanied with Sex Pistols. This band plays principally punk, but with the pass of time, they mixed a lot of types of music, like rockabilly, reggae, ska and others.

I like this group because the combination of different kind of music makes the songs and their disc very special, in addittion, every lyrics of their songs give an opinion and a critic about how is the society, reflections about how the system affect us and how the state is acting over us.

My favourites discs are Sandinista! and London Calling, but the song that I like the most is Guns of Brixton. This song is a protest against the police of  the district of Brixton, because the violence of policemen was excessive. I think this song represents the situation in Chile nowadays, because the behaviuor of this group was terrible, the violence against students, teachers, to port case, bus drivers and others society sectors, has been repressive and incarcerate unfairly.

Music

Personally, I have a big range of types music I like, because I listen bands and artists like The Clash, Janis Joplin, Ana Tijoux, Gorillaz, Soda Stereo, Chico Trujillo, Manu Chao, Evelyn Cornejo and other people whose music provokes me a feeling, a memory or a thinking; but a music that has stolen my heart is classical music, I have to admit it. I believe that this taste for this type of music came from my elder sister, because for many years she have listened it and I almost grew up with that situation in my house, so I had to learnt to listen it. In addition, I played the violin since I was very young, so I had to play many scores with this music.
I know, someone will say that this type of music is for old people or is boring or is too “old-fashioned”, but I think it is beautiful, because the harmony, rhythm and chords are simply so organised that the sound can transmit feelings and emotions without words (in case of opera is different), and this is the reason can make it marvelous. But, I must to say that performers, it means, people who play their instrument, like trumpet, cello, flute and others, are in charge of provoke something on the person who listen and for that they dedicate a entire life to this profession. So, I want to invite you to listen this music, starting with Waltz no. 2  by Dmitri Shostakovich or Danzon no. 2 by Arturo Márquez, both are beautiful!

Other pets

I already have talked about my two pets in old posts: my guinea pig called Maya and my little dog Olivia; and I have never had pets before them, so I want to write about pets that I have wanted once in my life.
One of them was have a rabbit, but every time I look this animal I remember the cereal called Nesquik and its form, because it is like a poop of a rabbit and I think it would be a problem and I do not like it. So, I continued thinking and another pet that I have liked is a turtle, but those animals are too slow and it makes me feel exasperated, also a turtle is very expensive to keep in a house, because the food is difficult to find and try to imitate its environment is very hard to do. Finally, I wished to adopt a cat, but I think that this kind of animals usually scapes from the house and I would be worried.
Then, while I was writing this post, I thought that my pets are really incredible and I do not like other animals, so I would not change them for anything in this world.

Yoga

A few days ago, I tried  to run upstairs some metres and i felt so tired, even my breath was very fast; then, I noticed that my physical health was terrible. For that, I remembered when i was a little youngest than today and I did yoga.

I did a different type of yoga called Bikram Yoga. It consists in being in a room with 42 grades of heat and doing 26 positions during 90 minutes. The exercise brings a lot of benefits to your body and your mind, because you work every muscle, joint, tendon and all the fibres of your body, also, it helps to the concentration. And, why does this yoga use the heat? The heat softens the body to do differents positions, because you need flexibility. In addition, the heat produces perspiration to eliminate toxins, cleaning your body.

I would like to do this sport or exercises again, because in every session you could find a lot of energy inside of you, getting free to the outside, even the energy of the group, in this room, was awesome. I will reconsider this type of yoga.

Presentation

Well, for my future presentation on my english class, I am going to talk about the types of legitimate rule by the German sociologist, philosopher, jurist, and political economist, Max Weber, on his book “Economy and society”. I chose this topic because is very interesting how works and affects the domination in differents areas of our life, even in our reality. My presentation is going to organize in characterise how Weber looks the domination and its classifications according to various types of legitimacy, finally, I am going to give examples where can see the domination.
Weber describes three pure types of domination: legal, traditional and charismatic. In a little description, the first one is about a domination based on a statute. It means that you do not obey to a person, you obey the rule established and everything is regulated for a statute, like in a State. In second place, the traditional domination is the authority ligitimated based in a “has always existed”, because people has inherited and accepted it without thinking, for example the feudal regime, where vassals were dominated by feudal lords. Finally, the charismatic authority is a affective devotion to a person and his or her supernatural qualities. It explains the authority of political or religious leaders, like Hitler or Jesus, but the problem is when the leader die or the followers do not believe in the person anymore, then the domination is over.

Technology

I think my cellphone is my favourite piece of technology. I have got it for two years at christmas day and my dad gave it to me. I like this object because it works for everything, you can make calls, sending messages, listening to music, watching videos, surfing on internet, actually, it is a multifunctional, because you can use it like a calculator, a watch, a radio and others things that you want to do.

Now, I use it everyday for being connected with different people in applications that I downloaded, like Whatsapp, Facebok, Gmail, even Ucursos; and I listen to the radio too when I am going to the university. I believe that if I did not get it, I would feel incommunicated, so I always try to check it before go to everywhere.

However, I think the technology is going to control us, because if you look other people around, you will see a lot of men and women only using their cellphone unworried of everything and it is bad for our relationships, they are not the same as always.

Photo

This picture reminds me a lot of emotions and it is a special for me. The photo was taken two years ago by a friend of us. In this photograph we were in a house of  elderly men and women. We went to play some pieces of music to entertain them for free. At the end of every song, I loved the faces of this people, they were moved and happy. Finished our presentation, they came to us and congratulated us, because It was wonderful, they felt “like in heaven”. Our team were so happy for cause those feelings in this people. I think the music is  a universal language and its function is cause a feeling in every person who listen it, is an issue of  belong to and identify with it.
I like this photo because it reflects our work like a team and we could keep together in all those rehearsals before our presentation. Also, I like for the way we played and the most important thing is how we transmited the music to the life of this people.

Pets

I have two pets that are one of the most important things in my life and for that, I want to give them a space in my blog. I have a dog and a guinea pig. Their behaviour is terrible, but I still love them.

My female dog is a chilean terrier like Condorito’s dog, her name is Olivia and has two years old. She is sweet and lovely, but is a little shy with people who does not know; she runs too fast and is very naughty too. Also, her breed is hunter, so she sometimes comes with a bird in her mouth. That is a little disgusting.

For other side, there is my guinea pig called Maya. I have got her for a year, because a friend gave Maya to me. She is a beutiful ball of soft hair, so small, calm and is very fast too. However, she demands a lot of my time and spend some money for the vet, because is not easy find a vet specialised in exotic pets and his food is expensive.

In spite of all the cons, they gave a lot of happiness to our family and that is the important. I wish they will never die.
